Mill Creek Town Center
Mill Creek owns the distinction of being the first planned residential community in the Puget Sound
area. In the seventies, a Japanese company bought a large tract of land, built
the infrastructure and golf-course, and successfully sold a large number of lots
to builders. Such developments now are commonplace, but at the time it was
radical for the Puget Sound region.
Over time, the population of the area has grown, and
Mill Creek became the darling of Snohomish County. With growth came increased
commercial activity, and the City partnered with a developer to create a large
vacant parcel it designated as a Town Center. We stepped in at this point,
bringing a relationship with Central Market, considered one of the finest local
grocery store operators. The momentum created was contagious, and within five
years the entire Town Center is built out.
Mill Creek Town Center is a signature development,
incorporating many New Urbanism ideas to create an inviting shopping and living
experience. For the cooperative effort of the City and our development team at Wakefield
Properties, we were honored with a 20/20 Vision award.
